Doohickey (balancer chain tensioner) not upgraded
SeriousOccasionalThe balancer chain adjuster lever ("doohickey") plate and spring carry over unchanged from the Gen 2 era; only the cam chain guide was improved. The two-piece stock design can still fail over time, allowing the balancer chain to lose tension. Loose/missing fasteners (seat bolts, header, fairing)

Weak/basic front brake and touchy rear
ModerateWidespreadThe single 300mm front disc with a 2-piston floating caliper still lacks urgency from highway speed on a ~207–221 kg bike, and the rear brake is described as only fine, if not touchy. Not a defect but an expedition-relevant limitation, especially fully loaded.

- Long stopping distances loaded
- Easy rear lockup off-road (ABS trims mitigate on-road)
Field repairableNo — Use both brakes together, keep pads/fluid fresh, brake earlier when loaded or descending.
Basic rear shock / non-adjustable forks
MinorCommonThe rear Uni-Trak shock offers only preload and rebound adjustment and the front 41mm forks remain non-adjustable; heavier or loaded riders find the stock damping marginal and need to wind in preload/rebound. No specific shock failure is documented on Gen 3, but the budget suspension is a repeated review criticism.

USB port cover / accessory-socket trim quality (Adventure/Traveler)
MinorCommonOn trims with the dash-mounted USB charger, the USB cover trim piece is poorly designed, tends to come loose and dangle, and is a weak point for water/dust ingress.

Field repairableYes — Secure or replace the cover; keep the port sealed off-road/in rain.
High-rpm vibration / no tacho + limited dash
MinorWidespreadThe big single vibrates noticeably at higher revs, and the new LCD dash omits a tachometer while reducing temperature and gear info to warning lights only, which some riders find a step back for touring information.

- Buzzy bars/pegs at speed
- No rpm readout
Field repairableNo — An aftermarket OBD/tacho readout via the diagnostic port can add rpm and temp display.

Common locations for jacks, filters, fluids and fuse boxes. Follow the reference link when a picture helps more than words.
Engine oil fill
Oil filler cap and sight glass on the right side of the engine; check level with the motorcycle upright after the oil has settled.

Reserve tank behind the right lower fairing; check between the F and L marks with the engine cold. System capacity is 1.5 L.

Radiator/coolant fill accessed via a bung near the water pump (a slot in the bash plate allows socket access without removing the guard).
