Plug and reinflate a tubeless tread puncture

  1. 01Move the valve away from the repair area and confirm the damage is in the tread, not the sidewall or bead.
  2. 02Remove the object, prepare the puncture with the reamer and install a repair string with the insertion tool.
  3. 03Inflate gradually, leak-check the repair and set the tyre to the motorcycle's documented cold pressure.
  4. 04Treat sidewall, bead, carcass or repeated-pressure-loss damage as non-pluggable and use recovery or a wheel-off repair.

Replace a damaged 520-chain link

  1. 01Confirm the carried master link exactly matches the fitted chain manufacturer and model.
  2. 02Remove the damaged link with the chain breaker without shortening the chain beyond safe adjustment range.
  3. 03Install and rivet the replacement link to the chain maker's flare specification.
  4. 04Set chain slack, align the rear wheel and recheck the repair before returning to normal speed.

Limp home after a broken side stand or magnet holder

  1. 01Put the motorcycle in neutral, switch the ignition off and support it securely. Inspect the frame-mounted side-stand switch and its wiring; if either is damaged, do not bridge the connector or continue with this workaround—use recovery.
  2. 02Secure or remove the broken stand section so it cannot drop or contact the road, chain or swingarm. Recover the OEM magnet holder from the stand or broken section if it is intact.
  3. 03Place the recovered magnet against the fixed side-stand switch in the same face and alignment it occupied with the stand fully raised. Switch the ignition on in neutral and adjust the magnet until the motorcycle recognises the stand-up state, then switch off.
  4. 04Tape the magnet firmly to the switch and add two independent heavy-duty cable ties. Keep every tail and tape edge clear of the chain, sprocket, exhaust and suspension travel.
  5. 05With the motorcycle upright, the rider mounted, the clutch pulled in and a clear controlled area ahead, start in neutral and briefly select first gear to confirm the engine continues to run. Return to neutral and recheck both the magnet and broken-stand restraint.
  6. 06The side-stand safety interlock is now defeated. Physically confirm the stand or remnant is secured before every move, ride slowly and directly to repair, and stop for recovery if the warning returns or the engine cuts.

What breaks first and where.

01

Side-stand or magnet-holder damage can leave the safety interlock open

ModerateRare

The stand-up signal depends on the separate OEM magnet holder aligning with the frame-mounted Hall-effect switch. A broken stand or displaced holder can therefore prevent drive even when the switch and wiring remain intact.

Symptoms

  • Engine cuts when first gear is selected although the stand remnant is secured
  • Magnet holder missing, displaced or separated from the side stand

Field repairableYes — Use the bounded magnet-retention limp-home procedure only when the switch and wiring are undamaged. This defeats the safety interlock; ride directly to repair or recover the motorcycle.

Where to find things

Common locations for jacks, filters, fluids and fuse boxes. Follow the reference link when a picture helps more than words.

Engine oil fill

The engine-oil filler plug and level viewer are on the engine; check on level ground using the manual's warm-engine procedure.

Reference

Coolant reservoir

The coolant compensating tank is behind its service cover; check between MIN and MAX only with the engine cold.

Reference

Brake fluid reservoir

The front reservoir is on the handlebar master cylinder; the rear reservoir is beside the rear master cylinder and must remain above MIN.

Reference

Battery

The 12 V battery sits beneath both seats and the rear-sliding battery cover; disconnect negative first.

Reference

Fuse box — interior

The main fuse, ABS fuses and individual-consumer fuse box are under the seats; the fuse-box lid identifies each circuit and includes 10 A and 15 A spares.

Reference

Diagnostic connector

The diagnostics connector is an under-seat circuit protected by fuse 9; do not bridge or probe it without the correct interface.
