Cam chain tensioner hydraulic leak-down ("death rattle")
ModerateCommonThe hydraulic cam chain tensioner on BMW's F-series parallel-twin engine (shared with F650GS/F700GS/F800GS) can lose internal oil while the bike sits, allowing air into the tensioner. This causes a loud rattling noise from the timing chain, especially on cold/initial start after the bike has been parked. Widely discussed and confirmed by multiple owners across the F-twin platform.
