Side stand switch failure
MinorOccasionalThe side stand safety-interlock switch can fail or become intermittent, which (depending on failure mode) can either prevent the engine from starting/running in gear or cause it to cut out unexpectedly. This is a widely community-documented issue on the CP2-based Ténéré 700 platform, though no NHTSA recall or dealer bulletin was found confirming it as an official campaign.
Symptoms
- Engine will not start even with side stand up
- Engine cuts out unexpectedly while riding
- Intermittent stalling
Field repairableYes — Owners commonly bypass the switch in the field by jumpering the two switch wires together at the connector as a temporary fix, then have the switch properly replaced or repaired at a dealer.
