What breaks first and where.
Handlebar switch corrosion — NHTSA Recall 25V583
SeriousOccasionalCorrosion can develop within the left handlebar switch assembly on affected CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles, which may cause the switch to stick, short, or fail. Depending on the failure mode this can affect functions routed through the left switch cluster, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda's recall documentation lists 2020-2022, 2024, and 2025 model year CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles as affected (approximately 7,492 units); Honda's remedy report states the underlying production fix was incorporated 'beginning with the production of 2026 CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles on September 17, 2025,' implying that 2026 model-year units built before that in-production date are part of the affected population while units built on/after that date are not. Honda's internal recall code is KS8; owner notification letters began mailing November 3, 2025.
Symptoms
- Left handlebar switch assembly sticking, shorting, or failing
- Possible unintended operation or loss of function of switch-controlled features
Field repairableNo — Dealer replaces the left handlebar switch assembly under recall; not a rider field repair.
FI-ECU software error causing potential engine hesitation / improper acceleration — NHTSA Recall KR1 / 24V882
SeriousRareThe fuel-injection ECU (FI-ECU) software installed on affected CRF1100 Africa Twin units was carried over from another Honda model and was not fully validated for the CRF1100 Africa Twin platform. Under certain conditions this can cause engine hesitation, improper acceleration, or a miscalculation of traction control intervention when wheelie control is engaged, increasing crash risk. Affects 2022, 2024, and 2025 model year CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles per reporting citing Honda's recall filing; remedy is a dealer FI-ECU reprogram via service bulletin.
Symptoms
- Engine hesitation
- Improper/unexpected acceleration
- Traction control miscalculation when wheelie control is engaged
Field repairableNo — Dealer reprograms the FI-ECU with corrected software; not a rider field repair.
