What breaks first and where.

01

Side stand switch failure due to pivot bolt loosening (NHTSA Recall 16V-891)

ModerateOccasional

The side stand pivot bolt/nut can loosen over time and use, causing the side-stand position sensor switch to fail to correctly detect whether the stand is up or down. This can prevent the motorcycle from starting when parked, cause it to stall unexpectedly while riding, or in the worst case allow the bike to be ridden with the stand down, increasing the risk of the stand contacting the ground or road surface during a turn. Ducati's official recall bulletin (SRV-RCL-16-004) covers 2015-2016 Ducati Scrambler units built between Feb 17, 2015 and Nov 11, 2016 in the affected population (5,502 units potentially involved).

Symptoms

  • Engine fails to start when parked
  • Unexpected engine stall while riding
  • Side stand sensor fails to detect stand position correctly

Field repairableNo — Official recall remedy requires a dealer to replace the side stand pivot bolt with a revised longer-thread part (No. 55610662AB), increase torque spec from 24Nm to 35Nm, and apply threadlock. Approximately 1 hour dealer labor, free of charge under recall.
