Operational warnings

red · Confirmation required

The high Forest Service portion of the Highland Scenic Highway is not snowplowed, so winter snow and ice can remove through access without a fixed annual gate date.

A winter itinerary may reach an unmaintained high section even while lower West Virginia highways remain open.

Planning response: Confirm WV 150 and the forest road status through West Virginia 511 and Monongahela National Forest; use lower maintained roads when snow or ice is present.

Seasonal windows are planning triggers, not a substitute for current road, weather or land-access reports. Recheck the official sources below before departure.
